World Wealth History Maps

While listening to the BBC World Service today, I learned about The Atlas of the Real World by Daniel Dorling, et al. Specifically, the book has a set of maps depicting, by surface area, the relative wealth of the nations of the world, from A.D. 1 to 2015. Take a gander:

A.D. 1 (Look at the Philippines)

1500 (Note Indonesia)

1900 (The rise of America)

1960 (Soviet Union surprisingly small)

1990 (Just before China's boom)

2015 (Look at Taiwan!)

It looks like I'm going to have to pick up this book after I get the Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World, 12th ed.
